Derwent Pencil Museum
A giant, an escape artist’s pencil, art adventures, and the world’s longest colour pencil. Just a few of the things you can see at the Pencil Museum in Keswick.
With workshops in creative crafts from animation, cartoons, and illustrations to model making, demonstrations, and family fun days. It’s a great day out for everyone. Even dogs are welcome in the museum and shop.
Discover the secrets behind the history of the escape artist’s pencil which RAF pilots carried with them during the war to guide them safely home at the Secret Pencil Exhibition. You can find out how they get colour into a pencil and let your children’s imaginations run free in the Kids Art Studio, while you relax with a cuppa and sticky bun at the riverside location with views of Catbells.
Open year round from 9.30am to 5pm with a family ticket for 2 adults and 3 children costing only £12.50 and under 5’s go free. It’s a pretty cost effective form of entertainment and provides a great day out, especially when the Lake District weather misbehaves.
