We have been lovers of the Lake District for many years —which is a long time—we’re the oldies of the family.
A family camping holiday 1977.
When our children were young we spent almost every weekend in the Lakes supporting Dave who was a keen and accomplished fell runner competing in iconic races including the Borrowdale Round, Langdale, and Skiddaw—who would have thought we would be living in the shadow of Skiddaw one day—The children and I would spend many happy hours walking the fells to cheer Dave along. Maybe this is when the children began their love of the lakes!
In my younger days I was a long distance swimmer competing in swims in lake Windermere and Coniston - there were no wetsuits in those days. So as a family when we went on camping holidays it was obligatory we all has a swim in the lake whatever the weather.
These days Dave and I enjoy walking on the fells whenever we get the chance. I have also completed several long distance walks including the Coast to Coast and the slightly more exotic Annapurna Pass in Nepal.
