Meet the Family - Part 2

Moving to the Lake District had always been a dream of mine, but not one that I ever thought would become a reality, so when my parents, sister, and her partner invited me to be part of a family business in Bassenthwaite, well I jumped at the chance.

Six months after finding the perfect place to start a camping business with enough living space for 3 families, I was packing up our little house in Keighley, West Yorkshire, and moving myself, 2 children - Liberty ages 8 and Cadell aged 6 - 2 dogs, and 3 cats (yes, we love our animals) to Kestrel Lodge, Bassenthwaite.

It's been a whirlwind 8 months, with building work, new schools, meeting people, and generally getting to know our new home but I can say, hand on heart, that neither myself nor the children have looked back. Not even once. The children attend the lovely, small village school and have made friends easily. The people of Bassenthwaite are lovely and have welcomed us with open arms, helping us all settle into village life with ease.

We've enjoyed sunny days paddling at the beck in the village, sunsets at Derwent water, walks up fells, bonfires, sledging, and adding to our animals with 8 hens who provide us with fresh eggs in return for living a life of luxury in the chicken penthouse with views of Skiddaw! We are living the dream! Well, my little dream anyway.
