Whinlatter Forest & Go Ape
A true mecca for mountain bike enthusiasts and a great day out for everyone else too. It’s located on the other side of Bassenthwaite Lake from Kestrel Lodge Campsite. You’ll be able to see it from your tent. Whinlatter is England's only true mountain forest. It boasts stunning views, fantastic walks, rare wildlife, and a great adventure play area for kids and big kids alike.
Walking trails suitable for the whole family and range from easy 1 and ¾ mile walks to more difficult 5 mile treks. There is sure to be something that appeals. You can even try your hand at orienteering.
For those looking to entertain the kids, there are nine separate play areas linked by a 600m trail where children can slide, swing, climb, and splash their way through this beautiful mountain forest.
You can even 'Go Ape' and experience the thrill of England’s highest Tree Top Adventure playground.
There's also Segway trails, cycle hire and a gift shop and café. There’s also lots of nature spotting opportunities, with a resident otter family, red squirrels, nesting osprey, deer, badgers and lots of year round events.
