A New Little Find...

We’ve always walked across the fields to the village, but after a chat with a local dog walker it seems the wood just above Kestrel Lodge (Robin Hood Wood) has an abundance of paths one of which leads to the village.
So a circular route with very little road walking is possible for me and the girls (Jazz and Merlin, my collies) with a stop at the pub possibly on the cards.
This could be one for you to try too. Just a couple of miles with some great views and areas away from farm animals so you can let your dogs off the lead without having to worry.
From Kestrel Lodge main camping field, turn left on the Cumbrian way across a couple of fields, over the bridge, and up to the road. Straight across the road you’ll find a short but steep climb to the top of the woods. From here you can see across to Skiddaw and Dash Falls as well as the Lake and of course—your tent!!!
Take the path downwards through the woods and just keep going towards the village. You’ll pass Faye and the kids pond dipping for tadpoles along the way. But there are tons of wildlife about, keep your eyes peeled for the red squirrels!
Once in the villages you pass The Sun Inn (stopping for Nachos and pint...or Jelly Babies if that’s more your thing), then carry on down to the village green. At the Green you’ll see the footpath sign behind the bus stop. Follow that path all the way back to Kestrel Lodge.
It really is a lovely little circular walk and a new regular morning stroll for me.
