Spring is in the air and i'm remembering summer

Its easy to forget the carefree days of summer when we’re in the depths of winters incessant rain but as the days get longer i've been thinking about summer and with a quick flick through my photos i’m transported back to the fun we had in our first few months of living here at Kestrel Lodge. Exploring our new surroundings and generally having fun.
Crazy golf at Hope Park in Keswick, sunny evenings down at Bassenthwaite Beck, Pooh Sticks with Granny and Grandad, discovering Castlerigg Stone Circle and skimming stones on Derwent Water.
We didn’t do much that cost money. It was all about being out in the fresh air and bagging the odd Wainwright. My kids are pretty good walkers in general and as long as there is a picnic at the summit and bribes in the form of sweets then they will happily spend a few hours fell walking. I’m not as fit as I used to be so there little legs set a pace that suits us all, well all apart from our two dogs!
As Dodd wood is only a 5 minute drive from here and Dodd isn’t too high it is the obvious choice for an afternoons walk and a picnic always tastes great from the top of a mountain. Is it the views or is it the effort you’ve put in that makes it taste so good? Probably a bit of both I suppose.
